How to maintain valid F1 Visa after your arrival



Once your visa is approved, you will be having expectations on how to stay, live and have fun in USA. However you need to keep in mind about the Do’s and Don’ts as well. Here are some tips that will help you keep your F1 status valid for your education.

Timely Arrival

Make a plan such that you arrive US no more than 30 days prior to the first day of classes. Make sure you meet International Advisor available in your university as soon as you reach to get the proper guidance through the program and university.

During your program

Upon arrival and you are all set to attend classes, enroll your full time attendance to maintain passing grades. If you are having difficulty with classes notify International Advisor. If you are unable to complete the program within date listed on I-20, your International Advisor will help you for a program extension.

Your passport should have atleast 6months of validity in the future. Consulate or Embassy will help you extend your passport if needed. Carry your passport along with you along with yourI-94 card for identification purpose.

Working during your program

You are not eligible to work off-campus with your F1 visa in US however you can work on-campus or curricular practice training options if you qualify. Check with your International Advisor if it is a possibility for you. If you work without proper authorization your visa will be revoked and forced to leave US.

Program Completion

Upon completing your program you will be having 60 days to return India. If you remain to stay you need to enroll for higher program, transfer to another school to receive new I-20 form or change the visa status.
